Benchmarking and GAD Seminar

The Library Personnel Mr. Ronaldo Sumait, Wilma R. Taguibao and Marilou Gollayan joined the Andrews Campus Administrative Personnel Association (ACAPA) in a benchmarking activity at Southern Luzon State University (SLSU), Lucban, Quezon last March 24-27, 2015. The endeavor primarily aimed to discover the best practices and services of SLSU which could be possibly adapted and incorporated in the processes of CSU.

Consequently, the ACAPA group attended the Gender and Development (GAD) Orientation facilitated by the University Training Specialist, Ms. Rachel Miguel, held at Sual Hot Spring Resort, Calamba Laguna. This activity intended to educate the participants about the rationale of GAD. As Civil Service Commission mandated the civil servants to advocate GAD, the agency defines Gender as the specific set of characteristics that identifies the social behavior of women and men and the relationship between them. Gender alludes not simply to women or men but to the relationship between them and the way it is socially constructed. Since gender biases exist and these biases prevent people from attaining their full potentials, development is impeded. To ensure that explicit, implicit, actual and potential gender biases are removed, the government embarked on gender and development as one of its priority programs. GAD focuses on the principle that development is for all. Everyone in society, female or male, has the right to equal opportunities to achieve a full and satisfying life. Women and men enjoy the same conditions for realizing their full human rights and potentials to contribute to development as well as benefit from the results. "These guidelines must be in one way or the other applied in all the department of the university", Ms. Miguel further emphasized.
